1992 Nissan Trucks D21 Tires

The 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 sits in the compact pickup era when small trucks had to cover everyday work, light hauling, and weekend use with simple, durable mechanicals. By this point, the D21 had earned a reputation for practical size and straightforward utility, but tire choice still depends heavily on the exact drivetrain and trim. This model uses radial tire fitments only, with five different primary sizes spread across 14-inch and 15-inch wheel applications. Available choices range from traditional whitewall street radials to BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 options with truck-oriented sidewall treatments. The right selection comes down to matching the correct sub-model, wheel diameter, intended look, and how the truck is actually driven.

Which Tire Size Is Right for The 1992 Nissan Trucks D21

The 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 uses five primary tire sizes, and the correct one depends on the exact sub-model as well as whether the truck is on a 14-inch or 15-inch wheel. Before choosing a tire, confirm whether the truck is 4x2, 4x4, 4x4 w/Sport Power Pkg., SE 4x2 V6, or SE 4x4 V6, then match that configuration to the wheel diameter and tire size already associated with it.

195/75R14Metric radial
Fit(s): 4x2
Construction: RadialRim: 14 in

195/75R14 is a metric radial size in which 195 identifies the nominal section width in millimeters, 75 is the aspect ratio, R denotes radial construction, and 14 is the rim diameter in inches. On the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21, this size is used on a 14-inch wheel and suits the truck's more standard street-oriented fitment. Product choices in this size include Coker Classic, Tornel, Maxxis, and Travelstar, with wide whitewall and narrow whitewall sidewall styles. It is the right place to focus if the truck is a 4x2 model and the goal is to keep the correct overall fitment type while choosing the appearance you want.

215/75R15Metric radial
Fit(s): 4x4
Construction: RadialRim: 15 in

215/75R15 is a metric radial size with a 215-millimeter nominal section width, a 75-series profile, radial construction, and a 15-inch rim diameter. For the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21, this size supports a 15-inch wheel application and gives buyers a broad mix of truck and classic-style radial choices. Available products include BFGoodrich, Coker Classic, American Classic, Maxxis, Tornel, and Travelstar, with sidewall treatments ranging from RBL to narrow whitewall and wide whitewall. This size deserves a close look when matching a 4x4 truck that keeps the standard 15-inch radial fitment rather than the larger Sport Power Package setup.

31X10.50R15Metric radial
Fit(s): 4x4 w/Sport Power Pkg.
Construction: RadialRim: 15 in

31X10.50R15 uses a flotation-style light truck format in which 31 refers to approximate overall tire diameter in inches, 10.50 is the nominal section width, R indicates radial construction, and 15 is the rim diameter. On the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21, this is the larger 15-inch fitment used for the 4x4 w/Sport Power Pkg. configuration. The available product in this size is a BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 with raised white letter styling and a truck-oriented profile. This size is important to verify carefully because it changes both tire proportions and wheel requirements compared with the standard street-oriented D21 fitments.

215/75R14Metric radial
Fit(s): SE 4x2 V6
Construction: RadialRim: 14 in

215/75R14 is a metric radial size with a 215-millimeter nominal section width, a 75-series profile, radial construction, and a 14-inch rim diameter. Within the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 range, it serves as a distinct 14-inch application rather than a variation of the 15-inch 215/75R15 size. Buyers can choose among Coker Classic and American Classic offerings in this size, with both narrow whitewall and wide whitewall presentations available across several radial series. It is the size to evaluate when the truck is an SE 4x2 V6 and the priority is keeping the proper wheel diameter while selecting the preferred sidewall look.

On the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21, this size is used on a 15-inch wheel and represents the largest standard metric radial fitment in the covered range. Available choices include BFGoodrich, American Classic, Maxxis, Coker Classic, Tornel, and Travelstar, with RWL, narrow whitewall, and wide whitewall sidewall treatments. This size matters most for an SE 4x4 V6, where confirming wheel width and overall truck setup is just as important as picking the right brand or appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 tire questions usually come down to matching the right size to the right sub-model, confirming 14-inch versus 15-inch wheel fitment, and choosing between classic-style sidewalls and more truck-oriented radial options.

Tire Size & Fitment

What tire size fits a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21?

The 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 does not use one universal tire size. Covered fitments include 195/75R14, 215/75R15, 31X10.50R15, 215/75R14, and 235/75R15, all in radial construction, with the exact size tied to the truck's sub-model. A 4x2 uses 195/75R14, a 4x4 uses 215/75R15, a 4x4 w/Sport Power Pkg. uses 31X10.50R15, an SE 4x2 V6 uses 215/75R14, and an SE 4x4 V6 uses 235/75R15.

That means the first step is identifying the truck's exact configuration rather than shopping by model name alone. Wheel diameter also matters, since the D21 range here uses both 14-inch and 15-inch applications. If the truck has been changed with aftermarket wheels or suspension work, confirm the actual wheel size on the vehicle before choosing a replacement tire.

What size rim does a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 use?

The 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 uses either a 14-inch or 15-inch rim, depending on sub-model and tire size. The 195/75R14 and 215/75R14 fitments use 14-inch rims, while 215/75R15, 31X10.50R15, and 235/75R15 use 15-inch rims. Rim diameter must match the tire size exactly, so a 14-inch tire cannot be mounted on a 15-inch wheel, and the reverse is also true.

Checking wheel diameter should happen before comparing brands or sidewall styles. Rim width matters too, especially on the 15-inch truck sizes where product specifications can vary. Looking at the stamping on the wheel, measuring the actual wheel, or confirming the truck's current setup helps prevent choosing a tire that matches the model name but not the wheel on the vehicle.

Why does the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 have more than one tire size?

The 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 covers several configurations, and each one can use a different tire size. The fitment spread reflects differences between 4x2 and 4x4 versions, V6 SE models, and the 4x4 w/Sport Power Pkg., which uses the larger 31X10.50R15 flotation-style radial. Because of that range, tire size is tied to the exact sub-model rather than the D21 name alone.

That variation changes more than section width. It also affects wheel diameter, tire proportions, and the kinds of products available within each size. A buyer looking at whitewall street radials for a 14-inch fitment is making a different decision than someone matching a 15-inch all-terrain truck setup, so the sub-model should always be confirmed first.

Choosing the Right Tire

What should I consider when choosing a tire for a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21?

Start with the exact tire size and wheel diameter used by the truck's sub-model, since the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 spans five different radial fitments. After that, compare the tire's intended character. Some sizes have classic-style whitewall radials from Coker Classic, American Classic, Maxxis, Tornel, or Travelstar, while certain 15-inch truck sizes also include BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 options.

The right choice depends on how the truck is being presented and driven. A restoration-minded street truck may lean toward whitewall styling, while a more utility-focused 4x4 may call for a truck-oriented tread and sidewall treatment. It is also worth checking rim-width compatibility, load figures, and whether the current truck still has its original wheel and suspension setup.

What sidewall styles are available for 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 tires?

Sidewall choices for the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 vary by size, but the range includes narrow whitewall, wide whitewall, RBL, and RWL treatments. The smaller and standard metric radial sizes lean heavily toward whitewall options, while truck-oriented BFGoodrich offerings in certain 15-inch sizes add black-letter or raised-white-letter presentations that suit a more rugged look.

Sidewall style changes the truck's visual character even when the tire size stays the same. A whitewall can give the D21 a more traditional or custom street appearance, while RBL or RWL treatments can feel more at home on a utility-minded 4x4. Matching the sidewall to the truck's trim, era presentation, and actual use usually leads to a more satisfying final choice.

What brands offer tires for the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21?

Tires for the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 are available from Coker Classic, American Classic, BFGoodrich, Maxxis, Tornel, and Travelstar, depending on the size. Brand availability is not identical across all fitments, so a 14-inch street size may have a different mix than a 15-inch truck size. Some sizes emphasize classic whitewall radials, while others include all-terrain truck options.

Brand choice should come after confirming the correct size and wheel diameter for the truck. Once that is settled, compare each option by tire series, sidewall style, load specification, and rim-width compatibility rather than by name alone. That approach helps narrow the field to products that match both the truck's configuration and the owner's intended appearance or driving use.

Restoration & Appearance

Which tire should I choose for a period-style 1992 Nissan Trucks D21?

A period-style 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 usually starts with keeping the correct size for the exact sub-model and then choosing a radial with an appearance that matches the truck's intended presentation. In the street-oriented sizes, that often means looking at narrow whitewall or wide whitewall offerings from series such as Star Series, Coker Classic Radial, American Classic Radial, Tornel Classic, or Classic Whitewall MA-1.

The key is separating period-style appearance from strict originality. A whitewall treatment can suit a restoration-oriented or custom presentation, but exact factory originality should be checked against Nissan literature, surviving examples, or marque-specific references. Once the appearance goal is clear, stay within the proper size and wheel diameter for the sub-model to keep the truck's stance and fitment consistent.

How does tire construction affect the appearance of a restored 1992 Nissan Trucks D21?

On the 1992 Nissan Trucks D21, the primary fitments covered here are all radial, so the appearance change comes less from switching construction and more from choosing the right size, sidewall style, and tire series. A narrow or wide whitewall can give the truck a more traditional custom or restoration-oriented look, while RBL or RWL styling creates a more utility or off-road visual character.

Construction still matters in the sense that a truck-oriented radial and a classic-style radial do not present the same way, even if both fit the same wheel diameter. For a restored D21, visual proportion is just as important as sidewall decoration. Choosing the correct sub-model size first helps preserve the truck's overall look before finer appearance details are decided.

Fitment, Maintenance & Road Use

Can modifications affect tire fitment on a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21?

Yes, modifications can change tire fitment on a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 even when the replacement tire matches one of the original size applications. Aftermarket wheels can alter width or offset, suspension changes can affect clearance, and body modifications can change how much room the tire has at full steering lock or suspension travel. Those issues matter even more on the larger 15-inch truck sizes.

A modified D21 should be checked as it sits now rather than relying only on factory-era sizing. Confirm the actual wheel diameter and width, then look for clearance at the fender, inner wheelhouse, and steering components. That extra step is especially important when moving between street-style and truck-style tires, since section width and overall proportions can affect available space.

What should I inspect before driving a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 on new tires?

Before driving a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 on new tires, inspect the wheels for damage, confirm the wheel diameter and width match the chosen tire, and make sure the tires are inflated properly for their application. It also helps to check lug hardware, valve stems, tread seating, and visible clearance around suspension parts, fenders, and steering components once the tires are mounted.

A short, careful test drive is a smart next step. Listen for rubbing, feel for vibration, and recheck tire pressure after the first miles. On an older compact truck, it is also worth looking over shocks, bushings, alignment condition, and wheel bearings, since worn chassis parts can affect how even a correctly sized new tire behaves on the road.

How often should tires on a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 be inspected?

Tires on a 1992 Nissan Trucks D21 should be inspected regularly, especially if the truck sees seasonal use, long periods of storage, or mixed road conditions. Look for irregular wear, sidewall cracking, cuts, bulges, embedded debris, and slow air loss. Pressure should be checked routinely, since underinflation or overinflation can change wear patterns and affect how the truck rides and steers.

Inspection is most useful when it becomes part of a simple routine rather than a once-a-year event. Checking the tires before longer drives, after storage, and whenever the truck feels different on the road can catch problems early. A D21 with whitewall tires also benefits from regular cleaning and visual checks, since sidewall condition is easier to notice when it is kept clean.
